Danielle Sigler Exhibition Statement:
Organized Chaos (Party Environment) is the Grand Finale
Exit Exhibition that marks the end of my two-year Residency
at the St. Petersburg Clay Company. Set up as an installation,
this exhibition combines the objects I have created to raise the
question: What environment do these thoughts and work need
to exist in.
I am interested in how we seem to place art on a
pedestal in a gallery or, as in the clay world, at home in a
cupboard. The environment I have created mixes these two
settings in order to fully explore my ideas, the space that
reflects them and to create an answer for the question of
proper environment.
The sculptures in my world are a continuation of the
Fetus series. This body of work is inspired by my time working
in a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit mixed with my pre-existing
phobias of childbirth and medical practices.
Moving from large objects displayed out of a typical
gallery setting to domestic products, the Florida State Plates
are an exciting branch off of the best selling Functional
Erotica series. These plates lightly poke fun at the state of
Florida by commenting on the foreign, strange, annoying and
funny aspects of this new environment I have inhabited for the
last two years.
Through all of the chaos are simple gestures made of
clay. Its tactile sensations and endless possibilities,
incorporated with other media allow me unlimited creativity and
self-expression. Materials span from found objects such as
furniture and medial supplies to fabric, ribbon, hair, glitter,
paint, and metal.
But in the end, all I really want is for the viewer to
enjoy the party and experience the chaos.
